What's pathetic about Motorola's Xoom commercial is that they highlight things that no one cares about:
  • Dual-core 1GHz Processor
  • 1080p HD Video
  • 3G upgradable to 4G
  • Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  • Adobe Flash Player
These things appeal to geeks & those in the tech industry. Tech blogs & press slobber all over this stuff but normal people, i.e. the mass market, don't even know what these things are let alone care about any of them.

Today, Friday the 13th, at precisely 23:31:30 GMT (5:31:30 PM Central Time) the time as measured by UNIX computers will be 1234567890. UNIX time is measured as the number of seconds since midnight, January 1, 1970. So at 5:31:30 PM Central tonight it will be exactly 1,234,567,890 seconds since the start of UNIX time.

While not particularly meaningful to most people it is a bit of a milestone in the history of computing.  It is also a bit of a reminder of the upcoming UNIX-ocalypse in 2038 (think Y2K).  So everybody, join with me now and party like it's 1234567890!

PS  Wow, it's been a really long time since I posted anything!

Nikon D700 officially unveiled Print E-mail

Nikon D700
It looks like the cat is officially out of the bag regarding Nikon's new D700 digital SLR.  I'm not sure if Nikon UK jumped the gun (still not available on other Nikon websites) but if you go there right now you'll see information about the new Nikon D700 and the SB-900 Speedlight. The D700 features a 12.1 MP Full-frame (FX) sensor, ISO 200-6400 and 5fps. It's basically a D3 in a D300 body. While the D700 hasn't been a closely guarded secret, with multiple leaks coming out in recent days, this is the first official information from Nikon about the camera.

I don't think I'll be replacing my D300 with this any time soon, but I really can't wait until we get one in the office so that I can play with it.

Read on for more information.

Kuwan.net is Back Print E-mail

My other web site, Kuwan.net, is now up and running again along with a nice new redesign.  So if you're into Mac software or just wonder a bit about what I do, then go on over to Kuwan.net and give it a look.  I've still got to add a lot of content, but the basic stuff is there.

Also, I should hopefully be updating my applications there soon as well.  I really need to get Universal versions of them up and running.  Now that I've got Kuwan.net redesigned maybe I'll put some time into making Cutterpillow look pretty too.

New RSS feeds Print E-mail

I've finally gotten around to updating the RSS feeds with a much better engine.  IMHO, the default syndication component of Joomla is horrible.  It never seems to be formatted correctly and just plain looks bad.  I've replaced it with DS-Syndicate which provides what I originally wanted for my feeds.

What does this mean if you're a subscriber?  Well, you'll have to subscribe to the new feeds because the URL has changed.  You can subscribe here as well as under the Syndicate section on the left column.  The old feeds should still work, but you can no longer access them from the site.  I'll probably disable them eventually.  Let me know if there are any problems.
