The Utah Jazz defeated the Golden State Warriors 100-87 on Tuesday night to advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 1998.
It was a messy game on both ends, but the Jazz were able to outlast the Warriors to win the series 4-1 and advance to the Western Conference finals. The three pointers that were falling for the Warriors throughout the playoffs fell flat tonight. The Jazz on the other hand didn't look too hot themselves, committing a large number of turnovers, but were able to last where it counted in the 4th quarter.
Again it was Derek Fisher coming up with a big clutch performance in the 4th quarter, including 3 3-pointers, to help the Jazz outlast the Warriors. Andrei Kirilenko had 21 point and 15 rebounds and a big steal with about 1 minute left in the game to help seal the deal for Utah.
The 3 point shots that were falling so easily for the Warriors throughout the playoffs weren't falling tonight. They were just 6-30 from 3 point land. Despite this they were able to stay in the game thanks to a multitude of Utah turnovers and poor free-throw shooting by the Jazz. I think Charles Barkley was right in that as we got deeper into the series the smaller Golden State players had gotten tired from having to play with Utah's big men. Some of the frustration came out in the end of the third quarter as Stephen Jackson clobbered Dee Brown for a hard flagrant foul and then argued about it for a technical. A play or so later and GS got hit with another technical on Matt Barnes (I think) which also had coach Don Nelson storming the court. The Warriors really are poor sportsmen and lose their composure much too easily.
Whether it was frustration or fatigue, Golden State wasn't able to pull it together in the 4th quarter while the Jazz were able to stay focused and make some big shots to close out the series despite poor free throw shooting and a lot of turnovers.
The Jazz will now face the winner of the Spurs/Suns series. Both teams will be very tough for the Jazz, but after defeating the league's hottest team they will be ready for anything. Also, the Jazz have played very well against both the Spurs and the Suns. They split in the regular season 2-2 with the Spurs and were 3-1 against the Suns, including two wins in Phoenix.
Whatever happens, it's a great day to be a Jazz fan! Go Jazz!

The Utah Jazz were out in force tonight to slow down the wild Warriors and take a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference semi-finals. The Jazz were successful in slowing down and controlling the pace of the game as they handed the Warriors their first home loss of the post-season. To me the 4th quarter was the defining quarter for the Jazz, highlighted by only 1 turnover and an all-star performance by Derek Fisher. The Jazz have had a real problem with committing turnovers in all the games of this series and when they finally did things right, as the did in the 4th, then they easily dominated the Warriors.
The Jazz also did an excellent job of slowing the game down and taking the Warriors out of their run and shoot offense. It was the game Utah wanted to play. And now we've got the opportunity to close it out at home on Tuesday. If the Jazz can keep the turnovers down and play defense like they did tonight then I think they should be able to easily close out the series on Tuesday. Oh, and if our players can stop from breathing on the Warriors, because that apparently is a foul, then that will help as well.
It's been a long time since we had something to be excited about for the Jazz in the post season and if we can close this series out then it's on to the Wester Conference finals (and what might as well be the NBA finals) against either Phoenix or San Antonio, both of which would be very difficult. But we'll worry about that when we get there. One thing's for sure, I don't think anyone but the Jazz faithful thought we'd get this far in the playoffs, most everyone was certain the series would be tied 2-2 coming back to Utah. I think that there will still be some big surprises and a lot of heads will be turned before the playoffs are over.
Go Jazz!

My other web site, Kuwan.net, is now up and running again along with a nice new redesign. So if you're into Mac software or just wonder a bit about what I do, then go on over to Kuwan.net and give it a look. I've still got to add a lot of content, but the basic stuff is there.
Also, I should hopefully be updating my applications there soon as well. I really need to get Universal versions of them up and running. Now that I've got Kuwan.net redesigned maybe I'll put some time into making Cutterpillow look pretty too.

On Friday I went over to the Grand Opening of the Apple Store The Domain here in Austin. I didn't get there until right at 10:00 AM when they opened so I was somewhat worried that I wouldn't be able to score a free t-shirt. Luckily the line wasn't all too big and I was able to easily get inside for my free t-shirt.
I tried to get some photos of everything - the line, the inside of the store as well as happy people with their new t-shirts.
Read on for a few of my favorite photos or view the entire Grand Opening, Apple Store The Domain album.

My apologies go out to my brother Matt who has waited far too long to see his photos posted online. These are from our family trip to Lake Powell last summer (August), so it's only been 6 months or so. Matt was easily the king of the wakeboard on our trip. I was fortunate to get a few pretty good photos of him performing amazing feats on the wakeboard.
These were all taken with a Nikon D70 and an old 300mm manual focus lens. As the lens was manual focus it made it fairly difficult to get good shots, not to mention that I had to deal with a bumpy boat ride. A few of the shots are slightly out of focus but luckily I was able to keep a lot of them in focus.

During lunch today I drove to the new Domain shopping center in Northwestern Austin, TX where the new Apple Store The Domain will be opening on Saturday Friday. I'm not sure that I was really allowed to get inside the new shopping center as there was still a large amount of construction going on, but I slipped in anyway. I snapped up a few quick photos with the Fuji S5 that I've been using from work. They aren't the best images as the store was in the shade, but they should give you an idea of what to expect.
